DC Furies Seeking 15s Head Coach

THE DC FURIES ARE ACTIVELY SEEKING APPLICANTS FOR THE ROLE OF 15’s HEAD COACH

The Washington Women’s Rugby Football Club, better known as the DC Furies, is one of the oldest women’s rugby clubs in the nation.  The Furies are a 501(c)(3) organization with the goal of providing competitive and social rugby for athletes in the D.C. metropolitan area.

The Furies play 15s in the fall and spring, focusing primarily on 7s in the summer, with skills and fitness work throughout the winter. Practices take place in the Washington, D.C. metro area, and games take place both in our home city, as well as cities across the east coast.

The club currently plays at the Division I level, and is composed of a mix of elite, developmental, and beginner athletes. Our club plays competitive matrix games home and away, as well as friendly scrimmages with other clubs for further development. We are looking for a head 15s coach to provide our club members with high quality training and foster a competitive environment at all levels. This position would be for the term of the fall and spring seasons (Late August - Mid-November, and Mid-February - early May).

HEAD 15s COACH RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Produce and establish an overall strategy, season game plan, weekly training plans, and tournament game plans.

  • Collaborate with assistant coaches to provide intensive, high quality training and opportunities for learning to all club members.

  • Communicate with the assistant coaches and team captains regarding selections, game day plans, etc. 

  • Ensure that players receive the highest quality coaching, preparation, and feedback. 

  • Support the building and promotion of a culture of positive attitudes, a drive for high performance, and competitive success.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND QUALITIES:

  • A high-level understanding of rugby tactics, laws, and competitive strategy to direct game-play and learning of a Division I club.

  • Significant experience coaching rugby at a high level and relevant qualifications. Level 300 World Rugby coaching qualification is desirable but not required.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail as well as great communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Significant experience creating and implementing skill development programs, game play strategies, and training sessions for a variety of skill levels. 

  • Experience leading and managing players and collaborating with other coaching staff or leadership.

  • The ability to create an environment that balances player development with team performance.

  • A passion for providing leadership and developing a love of the sport

  • High standards of personal accountability, reliability, and responsibility to players and staff.

  • Commitment to our club’s values, and adjusting to club feedback throughout the season.

  • The ability to articulate a clear playing and coaching philosophy that is in accordance with the objectives of the club.
