THE DC FURIES ARE ACTIVELY SEEKING APPLICANTS FOR THE ROLES OF HEAD 7s COACH & ASSISTANT COACH

The Washington Women’s Rugby Football Club, better known as the DC Furies, is one of the oldest women’s rugby clubs in the nation.  The Furies are a 501(c)(3) organization with the goal of providing competitive and social rugby for athletes in the D.C. metropolitan area.

The Furies play 7s in the summer, focusing on 15s in the spring and fall, with skills and fitness work throughout the winter. Practices take place in the Washington, D.C. metro area, and Summer 7s tournaments are scheduled primarily throughout the east coast.

The club is composed of a mix of elite, developmental, and beginner athletes, and over the summer 7s season it is not uncommon to submit 3 sides – a competitive, club, and social side – to a tournament. We are looking for a 7s coach to provide our club members with high quality training and opportunities for learning. This position would be for the term of the summer season, ideally beginning in late May through August.

HEAD 7s COACH RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with assistant 7s coach(es) to provide intensive, high quality training and opportunities for learning to all club members.

  • Produce and establish an overall strategy, season game plan, weekly training plans, and tournament game plans. 

  • Support the building and promotion of a culture of positive attitudes, a drive for high performance, and competitive success.

  • Ensure that players receive the highest quality coaching, preparation, and feedback. 

  • Communicate with the assistant coach and team captains regarding selections, tournament day game plans, etc. 

  • Be available to attend and coach at most, if not all, 7s tournaments the club registers in. 

    • Dates are not set in stone, but tournaments are Saturdays and a weekend or two throughout June and July.



ASSISTANT 7s COACH RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with the head 7s coach to provide intensive, high quality training and opportunities for learning to all club members.

  • Assist in producing and establishing an overall strategy, season game plan, weekly training plan, and tournament game plans. 

  • Support the building and promotion of a culture of positive attitudes, a drive for high performance, and competitive success.

  • Assist in ensuring that players receive the highest quality coaching, preparation, and feedback. 

  • Communicate with team captains regarding selections, tournament day game plans, etc.

  • Be available to attend and coach at most, if not all, 7s tournaments the club registers in. 

    • Dates are not set in stone, but tournaments are Saturdays and a weekend or two throughout June and July.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND QUALITIES:

  • Experience coaching competitive rugby with relevant qualifications.

  • Knowledge of coaching practices and techniques to develop all levels of rugby players.

  • Experience creating and implementing skill development programs, game play strategies, and training sessions for a variety of skill levels. 

  • The ability to create an environment that balances player development with team performance.

  • Experience leading and managing players and collaborating with other coaching staff or leadership.

  • A passion for providing leadership and developing a love of the sport

  • High standards of personal accountability, reliability, and responsibility to the players and staff.

  • Commitment to our club’s values, and adjusting to club feedback throughout the season.

COACH BENEFITS:

  • A stipend will be awarded at the end of the season (At least $1,000 for head coach, and at least $750 for assistant coach - commensurate with experience and budget)
