DC Furies Seeking Applicants for the Role of Assisant 7s Coach

THE DC FURIES ARE ACTIVELY SEEKING APPLICANTS FOR THE ROLE OF ASSISTANT 7s COACH.

ABOUT THE TEAM:

The Washington Women’s Rugby Football Club, better known as the DC Furies, is one of the oldest women’s rugby clubs in the nation.The Furies are a 501(c)(3) organization with the goal of providing competitive and social rugby for athletes in the D.C. metropolitan area.

The Furies play in the spring, summer, and fall, with skills and fitness work throughout the winter. Practices take place in the Washington, D.C. metro area, and Summer 7s tournaments are scheduled primarily throughout the east coast.

The club is comprised of a mix of elite, developmental, and beginner athletes, and over the summer 7s season it is not uncommon to submit 3 sides – a competitive, club, and social side – to a tournament. We are looking for an assistant 7s coach to support our existing coach in providing our club members with high quality training and opportunities for learning. This position would be for the term of the summer season, ideally beginning in late May through August. 

ASSISTANT 7s COACH RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with the head 7s coach to provide intensive, high quality training and opportunities for learning to all club members.

  • Assist in producing and establishing an overall strategy, season game plan, weekly training plan, and tournament game plans. 

  • Support the building and promotion of a culture of positive attitudes, a drive for high performance, and competitive success.

  • Assist in ensuring that players receive the highest quality coaching, preparation, and feedback. 

  • Be available to attend and coach at most if not all 7s tournaments the club will participate in

  • Communicate with team captains regarding selections, tournament day game plans, etc….

ASSISTANT 7s COACH KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND QUALITIES:

  • Experience coaching competitive rugby with relevant qualifications.

  • Knowledge of coaching practices and techniques to develop all levels of rugby players.

  • The ability to:

    • Assist in the creation and implementation of a robust skill development program, game play strategies, and appropriate training sessions for a variety of skill levels. 

    • Occasionally lead practice and/or certain drills. 

    • Create an environment that balances player development with team performance.

    • Lead and manage others while working effectively with other members of the team leadership and coaching staff.

  • A passion for providing leadership and developing a love of the sport

  • High standards of personal accountability, reliability, and responsibility to the players and staff.
